  12.   Word Fugue runs under DesqView from Quarterdeck systems. When
  13.   setting up the application definition under DesqView, you should:
  14.  
  15.   ■  Give Word Fugue a minimum of 350K in which to run. Allow more if
  16.      you can, up to the maximum available. The more memory you have,
  17.      the less likely you are to run into problems (ie run out of
  18.      memory) while using Word Fugue. Editing, spell checking,
  19.      generating tables of contents, printing and so on all take
  20.      working memory.

  22.   ■  If you have QEMM or QRAM giving you Expanded memory (ie LIM
  23.      standard memory), allow at least 180K for loading the overlay
  24.      file, which will speed up operations.
  25.  
  26.   ■  Check the box  "Writes directly to the Screen"
  27.  
  28. .ix   Virtualize
  29.   If you do not have a 386 machine, you will not be able to
  30.   "virtualize" the screen (ie run in a small window) unless you
  31.   include the run time parameter /G to cause Word Fugue to use Bios
  32.   for all screen IO. It will be somewhat slower, but you will be able
  33.   to virtualize the program. (You can then type N for "Writes directly
  34.   to the Screen").

  36.   Those of you who have a 386 machine, DesqView can virtualize Word
  37.   Fugue without needing to resort to any parameters.{.╬}

  39.   A sample Word Fugue pif file has been included WF-PIF.DVP that
  40.   starts the program from the directory C:\WF. You should copy this
  41.   into your DesqView directory, and give it a try. Your setup may be
  42.   differnet from ours, so you may want to modify the PIF before you
  43.   run it.

  50.   Word Fugue works well with all of Window's modes (Real, Standard &
  51.   386 Enhanced). With Real mode, you will need to ensure that there is
  52.   sufficient memory available to run the program. You need a minimum
  53.   of 350k available (you may be able to get away with less, but you
  54.   will find that some features such as index & table of contents
  55.   generation will not work), but obviously 500k is better.

  58.   We have provided 2 Windows 3.0 PIFs file (WF.PIF & WF-G.PIF) and two
  59.   Windows 3.0 icons - WF.ICO (for colour displays) and WF-MONO.PIF
  60.   (for monochrome displays).

  62.   If you are running Windows 3.0 in Real or Standard modes, you should
  63.   use the Word Fugue startup parameter /G . If you don't, Windows may
  64.   hang if you switch away from and then return to a Word Fugue Window.
  65.   If you are running Windows in 386 enhanced mode, there is no problem
  66.   - you do not need the /G option. However, if you change Windows
  67.   modes, we recommend that you use the /G parameter, so that Word
  68.   Fugue will operate correctly in all modes.

  71.   There are 2 ways to configure Windows for Word Fugue:

  75.   1. The first is to use the file manager to install a new program
  76.  
  77.      ■ Select New from the File Menu in the program manager.
  78.      ■ Select Program Item and click on OK
  79.      ■ Type in the description "Word Fugue".
  80.      ■ Type in the command line "C:\WF\WF.EXE /G
  81.      ■ If you want to use the Word Fugue icon, click once on the
  82.        Change Icon button, enter the full drive and pathname of WF.ICO
  83.        (or WF-MONO.ICO), and click OK
  84.      ■ Select Save from the File menu

  87.   2. The second approach is to use the WF.PIF (or WF-G.PIF if you need
  88.      the /G parameter) supplied.

  90.      ■ Click on the Main window
  91.      ■ Select New from the File menu in the program manager
  92.      ■ Enter "Word Fugue" for the description
  93.      ■ Enter the full pathname for the WF.PIF file for the command
  94.        line. For example:
  95.           c:\windows\wf.pif
  96.      ■ If you want to use the Word Fugue icon, click once on the
  97.        Change Icon button, enter the full drive and pathname of WF.ICO
  98.        (or WF-MONO.ICO), and click OK
  99.      ■ Select Save from the File menu

  101.      You can use the PIF editor to customize the WF.PIF file to your
  102.      liking.
